To mark the centenary of the birth of Jacques Villeglé, the Musée Carnavalet – History of Paris presents the exhibition Paris Ripped: Jacques Villeglé and Urban Art.
In 1950, Jacques Mahé de la Villeglé settled in Paris. For nearly fifty years, the artist made the capital his playground, using the city itself as both material and inspiration for his creations. The exhibition invites you to follow the artist on his Parisian wanderings. Sensitive and immersive, it offers a journey to discover the history of the city through layers of posters that hint at the tears of anonymous passersby. The tour also explores the many and varied connections between Villeglé and the contemporary urban art scene. Unique in its approach, the exhibition is also unprecedented in the sheer number of documents and works presented for the first time.
