Quai de la Photo wanted to pay tribute to Kate Barry with a retrospective exhibition, an opportunity to showcase her sometimes little-known work on the 10th anniversary of her death in 2013 at the age of 46. This exhibition aims to "show the diversity of her work", explains Sylvain Besson, curator of the exhibition.
Sylvain Besson's book My Own Space (Mon propre espace), published this year by Editions de La Martinière, has given its name to the exhibition of the photographer's work at the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône, to which the family has entrusted her entire collection of negatives, contact sheets, digital archives and a large selection of prints (the remainder being hosted by the Bibliothèque nationale de France). The Musée Nicéphore Niépce is now sharing the My Own Space exhibition with the Quai de la Photo, to enable the Parisian public to discover Kate Barry's fragile, poetic work. This exhibition of 80 photos will occupy the two levels of Quai de la Photo for over 3 months, and will run in two phases: from December 15 to February 5, then from February 7 to March 20. An opportunity to discover the full range of Kate Barry's work through her emblematic projects and favorite themes: melancholy landscapes, fashion, portraits and, in particular, her view of her family.... Public opening on Friday December 15 from 6 pm.
