LES FILLES DU CALVAIRE
17, rue des Filles-du-Calvaire
75003 Paris
www.fillesducalvaire.com
For each new subject he approaches, Jean-Christian Bourcart recounts fragments of contemporary world stories, developing a writing that blends investigation, personal experience, and formal invention to varying degrees. Jean-Christian Bourcart is donating his entire archives to the Nicéphore Niépce Museum in Chalon-sur-Saône, which will dedicate a major exhibition to him this autumn. This institutional retrospective will be accompanied by a publication from EXB Editions, a book composed of facsimiles of the artist's research notebooks, to which the gallery exhibition will be dedicated. The works, drawn from a collection of 48 notebooks created since his arrival in New York in 1998, constitute a typological atlas allowing entry into Jean-Christian Bourcart's complex and paradoxical visual universe, situating the series within the broader context of his overall production.
