Harold Feinstein (1931-2015) never had any ambition other than to become a photographer. This native of Coney Island (where the beaches and amusement parks are frequented by all of New-York) created a monumental artwork for nearly sixty years. There is no "pure" contemplation in these pictures, it is above all an ethical disposition, an aesthetic of the mundane. This artwork composes, in the end, a whole, a great musical novel amidst the upheavals of post-war American society with the backdrop of the Korea War, the exacerbation of the racial issue and McCarthyism.
