A talented photographer and a diligent and frequently published reporter, particularly in VU magazine, Gaston Paris (1905-1964) remains largely unheard of. A virtuoso technician and brilliant observer, he worked, alongside his peers, to satisfy the visual appetite in the 1930s.
The exhibition “Gaston Paris, reporter. Photography on show” invites the public to rediscover the importance of this photographer, undeniably influenced by surrealism and the “social fantasy” of his time. With around fifty original period prints, twenty-five themed boards with contact prints, fifty or so magazine reproductions, over one hundred late prints made in the 1960s and 1970s and a projection of one hundred or so digitised negatives, the exhibition is also a reflection on different photography mediums.
