Faces of the working class

The photographs of the workers of Longwy, acquired more than fifteen years ago, are at the origin of our collection of images on the working world. Over the years and in a scattered fashion, we have collected nearly 300 original prints dating from 1880 to 1940. This corpus illustrates the idea of work inherited from the era of great industry when factory smokes took over the urban landscape. Through a multiplicity of faces, the exhibition aims to show how workers gradually freed themselves from the employer's representation and invented through photography a space for the expression of their own culture.
