In 1948, the HMT Empire Windrush brought hundreds of British subjects from Jamaica and the wider Caribbean to Britain. Many arrivals were veterans who had fought for Britain, lured by the prospect of employment and a better life.

This display has been created by the V&A Windrush 75 Co-production group, a collective of young people of Caribbean heritage. Young people have chosen timeline moments, added their own reflections and added key locations in the UK which have been significantly impacted by the Windrush Generation. Dive into the intergenerational stories of the Windrush generation and their descendants and explore the waves they have made across British history and culture.

We invite you to share your own memories and experiences from the past and present. With your help, we can expand the stories we tell and build connections that transcend time as we celebrate the Windrush generation’s continued legacy.
