Capital Image - New technologies and economies of photography
Estelle Blaschke & Armin Linke

“Capital Image” focuses on a mechanism inherent to photography: transforming the visible world into an exploitable visual archive. The artistic research project, led by photography historian Estelle Blaschke and photographer Armin Linke, develops around the notion photography as information technology. The photographs are today taken by machines to be read by others, the metadata attached to images become more important than what is represented there, algorithms create the gaze and new technologies take over.
The exhibition addresses essential questions: how can the economic value of the image be conceived, measured and discussed? What technologies and infrastructure are needed to manage and use ever-increasing quantities of images?
The exhibition is presented in parallel at the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Eschborn, Germany, from October 13, 2023 to January 21, 2024 (curator: Anne-Marie Beckmann).
