“AurelK works with images at the point of their suspension, where their appearance finds its conditions. Icons , Shroud (holy?) , Thresholds , and Book of Apostasy employ a formal vocabulary borrowed from religious iconography: small formats inherited from icons, deep blacks, gilding, drapery, or halos. But these codes are never reproduced as such; they are displaced, as if the image were shedding their authority to exist in a state of threshold. In the Forest series, dogmatic iconography disappears: carried by a romantic imagination, the spiritual dimension is formulated differently.” Claire Luna, excerpt from the exhibition text.
