Annie Leibovitz is without question one of the most renowned portraitists working today. But beyond her accomplished portraits of celebrities or her images of the rock music scene, she is also an artist who is engaged and involved, author of an oeuvre that is sensitive and penetrating, with profound humanism, as is clearly seen in her moving reportage from 1990 on the war in Sarajevo, or her images of demonstrators protesting the Vietnam war, or her book Women, published in 1999, which brings together more than 120 portraits of exceptional women from all walks of life.
