The Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Foundation presents an exhibition and a film program devoted to the film adaptations of Alexandre Dumas, the father (1802-1870) and the son (1824-1895). The greatest directors have appropriated, each in their own way, the literary mythology of Dumas, deploying their talents of adaptation and staging. Since the first Dumas adaptation in 1898, more than 250 films have been produced in over 20 countries.
On the three exhibition levels of the Pathé Foundation building, Dumas and the cinema dialogue with the films, thanks to more than 200 documents and nearly 100 film excerpts, costumes and props, photographs and graphic documents highlighting the cinematic writing of the father's adventure novels, whose adaptations punctuated the entire history of the cinema, breathing new life into the heroes of the late 19th century on the screen.
The exhibition Alexandre Dumas on screen also presents documents of the cinema at work: original scripts, costume designs, engravings that inspired the directors.
