Four euros is the price of a day's parking at the beach where my mother, Marie-Hélène, goes almost every day during her August holidays. About ten years ago, I began documenting the Montpellier region, where I'm from. As I traveled back and forth, I incorporated the emotional reasons for my returns to the south into my documentary work, and that's how my mother became part of the picture. Her movements and activities dictate my schedule and photographic destinations; her complicity and trust allow me to closely observe an example of human experience in this particular environment. By using Marie-Hélène's activities as a vehicle , the question of what is worth photographing shifts; linked to her daily experience of the area, I gain a familiar perspective.
