What Is Nordic?
On a round planet it might seem illogical for some things to be “Nordic” and others to be
“Southern.” The Nordic, Wikipedia states, is defined in relation to something else, the Continent,
especially Germany. The region covers the countries north of Germany. All things are
viewed and defined against the backdrop of something else. Nothing significant stands alone.
Only by relating something to the rest of the structure can anything be deduced.

In 1997, the writer Ebbe Kløvedal Reich opened an essay for an exhibition about the Nordic
with a question that is still interesting to ponder,
““WHO ARE THE NORDICS?”
Are they you? Or me? Or us?
Do we have anything in common? […]
