By all accounts strangers to war, we are exposed to it through the impression it leaves behind: that made by the forced gestures and expressive regards of those who have survived it, or by the real violence and destruction that the media transform into an imaginary and repetitive façade. How can we reconcile the awareness of this long-forgotten and far-flung violence with our workaday battle waged in the here and now? Alinka Echeverría and Pía Elizondo point their lens towards what the hegemonic and democratic Western culture hides, suppresses and exorcises.
